How does the pricing vary on Turo?
The price can vary considerably on Turo, depending on the type of vehicle you're looking for, the dates you've chosen and the location you require. The easiest way to see the range of prices is to select your location and date and search for cars. By default the cheapest cars will come up at the top of the screen. If you want something a little pricier, or with certain features, you can select this in the filters section. You can also choose from Deluxe or Super Deluxe vehicles, which are more premium options and carry a higher price tag. Be aware that the price you see doesn't include any additional insurance premiums you may wish to add on, and Turo also requires a security deposit for Deluxe and Super Deluxe cars.
Can I take pets in a Turo vehicle?
Yes, although Turo sets two clear definitions of pets within its terms and conditions that you need to follow. By law, all vehicles can accommodate animals that are used for service or assistance animals, whether they are labelled as pet friendly or not. Service or assistance animals are not required to be placed in a crate or carry cage at the time of traveling in the vehicle. Any animals that don't fall under the service or assistance policy are deemed as pets and will need to travel in a pet-friendly vehicle. These are marked under the filter section of the search functionality. Hosts can charge you extra if you transport a pet in a non-pet friendly vehicle or leave a significant amount of animal hair when you check out.
Can I hire vans on Turo?
Yes, commercial vehicles are one of the types of vehicles offered on Turo to customers. You can discover these vehicles, including vans and trucks, in the same way as you would any vehicle. Input your dates and location into the search function and the full list of vehicles available in that area will pop up. Then, you can select the type of vehicle you're looking for, in this case vans, in the filter section under Vehicle Types. You can also select individual features needed as part of the vehicle, again by using the filter section.
How many miles can I do?
The distance allowed on your trip will vary from host to host and vehicle to vehicle. Some hosts will allow unlimited distance for a trip, while others will set limits. To see the limits, click into a vehicle where this will be displayed on the right-hand side. It will also display the cost, per mile or per kilometer, that you'll need to pay if you exceed this amount. To see vehicles that include unlimited distance, you can select this in the filters once you've chosen your dates and location. Turo recommends taking photos before and at the end of your trip in case there are any disagreements over how many miles have been used.
Will I be insured with Turo?
Yes, guests are insured as standard when they make a booking with Turo, although there are different options available. There are three levels you can choose from, Minimum Coverage, Basic and Premium, although with any of these you are covered with $20m in liability insurance. The costs of these plans depends on the cost of the vehicle hire. Premium coverage is 65% to 100% of the trip price, with a minimum cost of $14 per day. This entitles you to $750,000 third-party liability insurance and a physical damage waiver. The Basic plan is 40% of the trip price, with a minimum of $12 per day. This provides you with the minimum amount of third-party liability insurance and limits your responsibility for physical damage to $500. The Minimum plan costs 18% of the trip, with a minimum of $10 per day. This limits your responsibility to $3,000. You can also choose to decline insurance protection.
What protection is there against Covid-19?
Turo has implemented a number of safety features to help prevent the spread of Covid-19. Hosts are committed to cleaning and disinfecting their vehicles in between every trip, meaning the vehicle should always be clean when you check-in. If you don't feel this is the case, you can contact the support team who will be standing by to help. Another feature is contactless check-in, meaning you may never need to meet your host in person. Turo Go means you can unlock the door of your hire car via an app, or some hosts offer access to the vehicle by placing the keys in a secure lockbox nearby. Turo has also implemented flexible cancellations to ensure you shouldn't lose money if your travel plans change.
Do I have to clean the car before giving it back?
As a guest, you are not expected to clean or disinfect the car before handing it back to the host. However, you are expected to treat the vehicle with respect and to not use inappropriate or abusive behavior towards the car. If there has been a violation of this policy, the host can add a $150 cleaning fee to your bill. These include spills or major stains on the upholstery, caked-on mud or dirt, or significant amounts of pet hair. Anything that could require professional cleaning or detailing could result in a charge. As a guest, it is your responsibility to take photos before and at the end of your trip to document cleanliness.
